We're finally at that time of year again when the air is feeling cooler, the days are becoming shorter and the leaves are turning, Autumn is definitely upon us!
With this in mind our thoughts are turning to making ourselves snug and warm and extra cosy both indoors and outside with long walks in the woods, baking, meeting friends for hot chocolates and log fires in the evenings!
One way of doing this is embracing the Danish style of Hygge* in what we do, wear and how we decorate our homes.
So what does Hygge mean? It's creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. For example the warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Cosying up with a loved one for a movie – that's hygge, too. A hot chocolate in front of a fire, and to curl-up on the sofa under a cosy throw and reading a book is hygge!
Here are a few ways to embrace Hygge at home :
- Use of soft lighting to give a feeling of warmth and cosiness around your home get and rid your home of any harsh lighting.
- Bake
- Declutter
- Organise your baskets
- Surround yourself with friends and family
- Bring nature indoors and light a log fire
- Listen to music
- Place candles and diffusers around your home to create beautiful aromas.
Also embrace the Hygge style with your autumn clothes beautiful flowing skirts, soft autumnal jumpers, and suede ankle boots. And, of course, a luxurious cashmere and merino poncho is the ultimate in Hygge style!
*Oh and how do we correctly pronounce Hygge ? It's hoo-gah.
